Stewy sits down with Robbie Thorpe well respected grassroots Aboriginal Community activist who has dedicated his life to challenging government, systems and polices.
Our first self-published book was originally produced on Boon-Wurrung Country, using 100% recycled paper. This book is a legacy piece – it allows us to reflect on our feelings, struggles, opinions and visions for the future and we wanted to share it, in digital form, for those who missed out on a hard-copy, because the conversations are still relevant!
152 pages of stories, conversations and education.
Originally published Dec 2021.
Hard-copy no longer available- this is for a digital, downloadable file.
For non-commercial use only.
We made this book to be time capsule, a memory of the many people, photographers, writers, and contributors with whom we’ve worked alongside over the past three years.
This book is a legacy piece – it allows us to reflect on our feelings, struggles, opinions and visions for the future.
These conversations defy seasons or trends – they are yarns the world must have, that go beyond fashion. They are an integral part of a societal shift.
This book holds and continues these conversations. Our hope is that this book takes pride of place in our loungerooms, cafes, hairdressers, offices, parks… and that it does not sit stagnant on the bookshelf.
Robbie Thorpe is Krauatungalung and Tjap Wurrung man. He is a well-respected grassroots community activist who has dedicated his life to his people, fighting for justice and challenging government systems and policies.
Robbie gave our iconic, limited edition, Gunnai Warrior rugby jumper value and identity. This product sold out in minutes and is a community favourite. Photographing Robbie wearing the rugby, was a significant moment for Clothing The Gaps, given the enormous amount of respect we have for him and his life’s work — therefore he takes pride of place on our first cover.
This product is Ally Friendly.
Ally friendly merch is for everyone.
When we see non-Indigenous people wearing our designs, we feel proud that they are repping our merch and culture.
When we see Aboriginal designs in the world, it means Indigenous people are not invisible in the landscape.
But, purchasing from Aboriginal brands, businesses and wearing Indigenous designs alone is surface-level allyship. There needs to be more commitment than just buying from Aboriginal brands and businesses.
Wearing Aboriginal design is not dismantling a system that oppresses Indigenous people. Allies need to do more and learn more. Wearing our tees is a great starting point. We have equipped you with our merch and some of the educational content to go with them. We want you to go out in the world, have these important conversations and find ways to do more and support more.

Seamless ordering process and quick delivery. Will purchase from Clothing The Gaps again.
Great service and communication. Also glad that I've made the connection with you guys because the news emails have alerted me to issues that I was unaware of.
