This product is Ally Friendly.

Ally friendly merch is for everyone.

When we see non-Indigenous people wearing our designs, we feel proud that they are repping our merch and culture.

When we see Aboriginal designs in the world, it means Indigenous people are not invisible in the landscape.

But, purchasing from Aboriginal brands, businesses and wearing Indigenous designs alone is surface-level allyship. There needs to be more commitment than just buying from Aboriginal brands and businesses.

Wearing Aboriginal design is not dismantling a system that oppresses Indigenous people. Allies need to do more and learn more. Wearing our tees is a great starting point. We have equipped you with our merch and some of the educational content to go with them. We want you to go out in the world, have these important conversations and find ways to do more and support more.

The Empty Flag
Simple shapes and colours sewn together to become a sacred item and part of our collective identity.
It is the pride and passion of Aboriginal people that have created the value of this flag, not the artist. It is a true flag of the people.
Unless the flag is freed it will continue to lose this value and meaning, it will be an empty flag.

Clothing the Gaps is leading the #FreeTheFlag Campaign, we have been doing so since June 2019, when we received a cease and desist from WAM Clothing for producing some merchandise celebrating the Aboriginal flag. We started a petition called #PrideNotProfit and we have been campaigning to Free The Flag ever since.

See. Sign. Share our petition.

The Aboriginal flag is a symbol that has united all the Aboriginal nations. The flag represented the struggle and resistance movement, now it feels like a struggle to use it.

Rock one of these tees to help raise awareness of the Aboriginal Flag copyright issue, start a conversation and take your stance. Read more about the Free The Flag Journey.
