We're for People and Planet First!

Celebrating a New Accreditation: Clothing The Gaps Earns ‘People Planet First’ badge!
At Clothing The Gaps, our mission has always been about making a difference—not just through fashion, but through positive action that influences social change. Every thread we weave, every design we create, and every campaign we launch or stand beside is rooted in our commitment to First Nation’s led social justice, and sustainability.
Now, we’re thrilled to announce an exciting new milestone in our journey: we’ve officially earned the ‘People Planet First’ accreditation!
How it works
People Planet First is an international verification program stewarded by the Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) that was first piloted in 2021. SEWF is a not for profit that has been supporting the Social Enterprise network globally since 2008.
The verification assesses five key standards for social enterprises and applicants need at least one point for each of the five standards to be eligible for verification:
- Purpose: exists to solve a social and/or environmental problem
- Operations: Prioritises purpose, people and planet over profit in operational decisions.
- Revenue: Has a self-sustaining revenue model.
- Use of surplus: Reinvests the majority of any surplus towards its purpose.
- Structure: choses legal structures and financing that protect and lock-in purpose long-term.
For us, the People Planet First symbol will proudly sit alongside our B-Corp, Supply Nation, Kinaway and Social Traders accreditations. This recognition is not just another badge for us; it is a testament to the values we live by and the change we want to create in the world. It signals our ongoing commitment to putting people and the planet at the heart of everything we do.
For us, this is Mob being at the heart of everything we do, and honouring Country and our responsibilities as a business.
What Does ‘People Planet First’ Mean?
‘People Planet First’ is a verification process that recognises businesses who prioritise social impact, ethical practices, and environmental sustainability above purely being driven by profits. For Clothing The Gaps, these principles are woven into our values.
Our products, campaigns, and collaborations are all designed to create lasting change—whether it’s advocating for First Nations justice and social change, striving toward for environmental sustainability, or promoting ethical fashion.
This verification further aligns us with a global movement of organisations that are leading the charge in building a more sustainable and socially just world.
Being a ‘People Planet First’ certified business means we are:
Prioritising People: From our team members to our supply chain, we ensure that people are treated fairly, compensated properly, and work in safe, respectful environments. As an Aboriginal business we advocate for self-determination, celebrate and prioritise First Nations voices, and create pathways for positive change.
Putting the Planet First: Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s our everyday practice. We are continuously working to reduce our environmental footprint, from ethical sourcing of materials to ensuring our packaging and manufacturing processes are as sustainable as possible, to taking responsibility for the full life cycle of our products.
Ethically Driven: We challenge the fast fashion model by making mindful choices that benefit both people and the planet. Our goal is to ensure that every product we sell tells a story of impact, and holds transparency, and fairness.
Why This Verification Matters to Us
Since Clothing The Gaps launched, we’ve aimed to lead by example, showing how fashion and business can be a force for good. The People Planet First verification is a reflection of our commitment to responsible business practices, but also a motivation to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve, and what we can continue to improve.
It’s easy to get caught up in the trend of “sustainable” and “ethical” fashion, but we know it’s not just about the label—it’s about genuine impact. People Planet First accreditation ensures that we’re not just talking the talk but walking the walk. And for you, our community, it’s an assurance that when you support Clothing The Gaps, you’re supporting a brand that is making decisions with People and Planet First, and committed to doing more.
What’s Next for Clothing The Gaps?
With this new recognition, we’re more energised than ever to continue amplifying our message and mission. Our commitment to decolonising the fashion industry, working deeper on our transparency and sourcing practices, and nurturing a more sustainable future is stronger than ever.
We’d love for you to celebrate this milestone with us! Your support, whether through purchasing our products or sharing our message, continues to drive us forward. We are in this together, striving to create a future where business is a force for good—one that truly puts People and the Planet First.
