2020 will be our inaugural NAIDOC Virtual March | Run event. Every year we will design a medal and create an event based on the year’s NAIDOC theme. Don’t miss out on collecting the very first NAIDOC March | Run medal in the series – what better way to reflect and remember that NAIDOC that was, than with your own Aboriginal designed medal.
Always Was Always Will Be 2020 Medal
This medal represents this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ Aboriginal Land.
Medal design story
The medal is in the shape of the land mass, we now refer to as Australia and uses campfire symbols to highlight cities, where many people gather.
This medal honours over 300 Aboriginal language groups and the colours of the Aboriginal flag in Tasmania is a sign of strength, as Tasmania was one of the places hardest hit by invasion.
The repeating chant ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ surrounding Australia makes a statement that sovereignty was never ceded, and that Australia always will be and always was, Aboriginal land.
This medal was designed by Gunditjmara artist, Laura Thompson.
Register here - It's not too late to sign up to the 2020 NAIDOC March | Run on the 10-12 July, and as something extra special all entries will receive a complimentary patch. The first 1500 entries will receive their medals before the event for an amazing post March | Run sweaty selfie!

G’day Team,
I just want to congratulate you for organising this event. I set up a fundraising team for the Cathy Freeman Foundation from this event, 33 people joined, aged 8-50 and we ran with respect on country, we even had a team meber run 10km in Qatar! (She started running at 4:30am and it was 36degrees!!) I entered every event including the marathon. I actually celebrated my 10th Marathon with this event. So thank you again. Our fundraising team is still going, as I ran my last distance today. So far we’ve raised $12,500 for the kids living in community supported by the CFF. I look forward to more events and would be interesting in fundraising for Spark health too and I’m also open to suggestions.
Mad Respect,
Nel
